The Luxembourg Independent Media Authority (ALIA), a public administrative institution, was set up on 1 December 2013. It monitors the content of licensed television and radio services in Luxembourg and grants permits for regional and local radio stations in the country. If a programme undermines the protection of minors or human dignity, ALIA may take action and impose sanctions. The Authority is also responsible for monitoring the classification of films screened in cinemas.
